(377 words) Often in life you have to choose between what is and what you really want. People allegorically call this situation the choice between a crane in the sky and a tit in their hands. So what is better? I think it’s never too late to take what is, but to reach the unrealizable, high, ideal one must constantly, because it can be lucky. And it’s cruel to keep a tit, dreaming of a crane, it’s better to strive for what you really really want, and not to agree on compromises with fate. To confirm my words, I will give examples from books.
In A. Solzhenitsyn’s story “Matrenin Dvor”, the heroine was waiting for her beloved from the front, but he was missing. In the village, everyone already considered him dead, and a healthy worker, according to the common people, was wasted in vain, drying out from longing. Times were difficult in the village, working hands went like hot cakes. So the Thaddeus family decided to get his failed wife into the house. She was married to the younger brother of the missing groom. They persuaded the girl with might and main: it is necessary to take what they give, there are few men left in the village, the war is destroying all. So Matrena succumbed to persuasion, taking a tit in her hands. But Thaddeus returned from the front, and the life of his bride was only a series of disappointments. He didn’t forgive her for treason, and she too couldn’t leave her husband now. And if she had waited for a crane in the sky, she would have lived happily with the one she really loves.
But in the novel “Captain's Daughter” by A. S. Pushkin, the heroine did not take what they give, and she was right. The non-poor nobleman Shvabrin was married to her, a dowager, but the girl refused, because she did not love him. Mary dreamed of another man and waited for her happiness, although no one except her believed in such luck. The only son of the noble landowner Peter, who fell in love with the captain’s daughter, arrived in the fortress. Grinev was indifferent to the state of the bride, he was looking only for faithful love. Mary also fell in love with him and remained faithful to Peter even when Shvarbin starved her and blackmailed her in order to force Mironov to marry him. The heroine believed in her lucky star, and therefore in the finale she was awarded happiness along with the elusive crane.
Thus, I believe that a person should strive for what he really wants, and not take from life what is. You must believe in yourself and your dream, and not despair and be content with little, otherwise fate will inevitably disappoint you.
