Creativity A.P. Chekhov includes many literary works written in various genres. A special place, in my opinion, is occupied by his stories. So, we would like to give the shortest content of the story "Kashtanka" so that it would be easier for you to get acquainted with the main characters, the plot and to isolate the meaning and idea of the text for the reader's diary.
(357 words) In the first chapter, the author introduces us to Kashtanka, a cross between a mongrel and a dachshund, and immediately says that she was lost. Once the owner, the carpenter Luka Alexandrych, took the dog to the customers, on the way back the hero visited his sister, godfather, bookbinder, etc., so Kashtanka did not get to an unfamiliar street. Hearing loud music and seeing a crowd of soldiers walking along the street, she howled and ran from one sidewalk to another. When it was over, the owner was no longer there.
Fear seized the chestnut, in horror, she pressed herself against a porch and burst into tears. “No, it's impossible to live like that! We need to shoot ourselves! ”, The dog might think, if she were a man.
The traveler sat at some porch, but suddenly the door hit her. When she opened her eyes, she saw a stranger in front of her. Deciding that she might be suitable for something, the man called her after him. Now the dog found herself in a new apartment and eagerly swallowed everything that he treated her to. After she pretty fell apart in the middle of the room and decided the question of where she lives better. Kashtanka thought about the former owner and all the events that connected her with this man, and then fell asleep. Later, the animal, which will later be nicknamed Aunt, meets other residents - a goose and a white cat. A month passed, she was used to the current conditions of life. During the time spent in the apartment with the new owner, she significantly gained weight, and then the man decided to teach her various sciences. Lesson after lesson, she acquired new skills and began to delight him more and more. One night, Auntie sleeps restlessly, it seems to her that there are strangers in the room, but it turned out that she felt the approaching death of the goose Ivan Ivanovich, who was soon gone.
One evening, the landlord entered the room, announcing that Kashtanka had learned all the lessons and could act instead of the late Ivan Ivanovich along with Fedor Timofeevich. Her finest hour came, and when she began to "sing", a childish voice was heard from the hall. The dog flinched with enthusiasm and looked back to where they shouted. She suddenly remembered her former owner and his son, hurrying up to them. An hour later, Kashtanka, as she was originally called, wandered happily and carefreely after Luke Alexandrych and Feday, and all that had happened to her recently, she recalled as if not a true, heavy and long dream.
