The main theme that is revealed in the story of A. Green “Scarlet Sails” is the theme of dreams. So did Assol, the heroine of this beautiful story.
It all started as a girl’s childhood. The author describes her as a very smart child, at the age of 8 she could already read and write well. Sometimes her father released her alone in the city with small errands. Once, Assol, on the orders of her father, brought a lot of toys for sale to the city. She was tired and stopped to take a breath at the edge of the forest. She was curious what kind of toys she was carrying to the shop and she looked into the basket. And here, among other toys, she saw a yacht with red sails. The yacht enthralls the girl and she begins to play with her, and then decides to let her down the stream to enjoy all the charm of the game. The course of the stream picked up and took the yacht and Assol ran after her with all her might, knocking herself down, leaving further into the forest. Finally, she ran to the mouth of the stream and saw a stranger who was holding a lost yacht and was looking at it with interest. Then the stranger said that his name was Eglem and that he was a traveler, collecting folklore, fairy tales, stories and songs. Assol realized that she had never met such people as Eglem in her life. He reminded her of a wizard, the girl was impressed. Then her new friend decided to tell her about her fate. He told her that when she grows up and becomes an adult girl, one early morning in the morning a beautiful large ship with red sails will sail for her. The captain will be a brave prince who will take her with him to a beautiful distant land. Assol was happy, she believed this story and immediately ran to her father to tell about her. However, no one believed her. The more Assol spoke about her prediction, the more people laughed at her and called her crazy. She was even given the offensive nickname “Ship Assol”. But she still believed in prediction, no matter what.
She locked herself in her inner world and dreamed every day about her prince, her gaze fixed on the horizon. Her inner world was rich and this was enough for her. And then one day Arthur Gray learns about this wonderful girl, and her story inspires him. He decides to execute Assol.
He learned with great accuracy all the details of the prediction and created a plan according to which he could realize everything described in the smallest details. So, with great scrupulousness, he picks up silk for sails; he is satisfied with the color only in the third shop. He is looking for a color as pure as “the scarlet morning stream, full of noble fun and regal color ...” Finally, he meets what he needs and orders at least two thousand meters. Then Captain Gray walks down the street and meets an orchestra of musicians playing flute and cello. He offers them good money, but for this they need to assemble an orchestra and come in the evening to the captain’s ship “Secret”.
Early in the morning, Captain Gray led his ship “Secret” by the channel of a river flowing into the ocean. Gray himself stands at the helm of the ship and he looks exactly the same as Assol described him in her dreams. He speaks with sailor Panthen about what he is doing and in his words all the main idea of the story is concentrated, the whole essence of what this story was conceived for. Captain Gray talks about how wonderful it is to fulfill other people's dreams. That you always need to do this, if possible. If you can do a miracle, then do it without hesitation, it will bring good and joy not only to your life, but to the whole world. The author also tells us about the persistence of our faith in our dream. We must believe no matter what happens. And then, one day, a ship with red sails will sail to you.
